About these calculators
TimeConverted is a small set of calculators for working time: hours between two times, weekly time cards, overtime pay, and converting between hours-and-minutes and decimal hours. Every result shows its working, and every example on the site is checked by automated tests against the same calculations the tools use. How we calculate and test.
Overtime presets follow the US Fair Labor Standards Act, US state rules such as California’s, Canadian federal and provincial rules, and France’s Labour Code, with a link to the source for each. Anywhere else, you can enter your own rule, and money can be shown in US, Canadian or Australian dollars, euros, pounds, Swiss francs or rupees. The calculators give estimates for planning and checking, not legal or payroll advice.
There is no sign-up. What you type stays in your browser; the time card only saves to this device if you ask it to.
Frequently asked questions
Are these calculators free?
Yes. Every calculator is free, with no account, no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.
Is what I type saved or sent anywhere?
No. The calculations run in your browser and nothing you type is sent to us. The time card saves to this device only if you tick “Remember this card on this device”, and you can delete it at any time.
Which calculator should I use to check my pay?
Enter your clock-in and clock-out times in the Time Card Calculator to total the week, with overtime and gross pay. To read the decimal hours printed on a paystub or payslip, use the Decimal to Time Calculator.
Do the overtime calculations follow my state’s or country’s law?
There are presets for the US (federal 40-hour rule, California, and daily overtime in states such as Alaska, Nevada and Colorado), Canada (federal, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia) and France. In most other countries, including much of Europe, overtime pay is set by contracts and collective agreements, so choose Custom and enter your own limits and rates (see overtime in Europe). For US states, check with your state labor office.
How accurate are the results?
Times are calculated in whole seconds and money in whole cents (or pence), so there are no rounding errors from decimals. Every worked example on the site is an automated test, and each result shows the steps used to reach it.
Do the calculators work on a phone?
Yes. They are designed for phones first, with number keyboards on the time fields. The time card also prints on a single page.
